Preaching the Word
We believe that the Holy Spirit uses the Word of God to change people’s lives. We believe in biblical preaching that is aimed at the heart of the believer and the unbeliever.
We offer a Sunday School program with qualified teachers who use the Bible to minister to the hearts of their class members. We believe that any Sunday School curriculum should be Bible-based and Christ-centered.
It is universally understood that the youth of today are tomorrow’s leaders. To that end, a strong and vibrant youth ministry must be an integral part of any church program and ministry. Through sound Bible preaching, age specific teaching for Sunday School and Wednesday evening services, activities that are focused as much on ministering to others as they are on having fun for the teens, and ministry opportunities through outreach programs and youth-led church services, we strive to assist our teens in learning how to reach the lost for Christ and grow in Christ-likeness themselves.
Two church vans presently run every Sunday morning for Sunday School and church to pick up children and adults in the surrounding neighborhoods. The vans also pick up college students for the Sunday evening services.
Each Saturday we meet at our church at 10:00 a.m. and pray before we go out to knock on doors. We do not believe that door-to-door soul winning is an outdated method of evangelism. It is not the only way, but, in my opinion, it is the best way to reach people. We have a number of people in our church who have been reached through our soul winning program.
Throughout the week we have a daily radio program on WTBI (91.5 FM, 1260 AM) entitled the Voice of Gethsemane. This radio program features 15 minutes of sound Bible teaching and can be heard Monday through Friday starting at 5:45 p.m. God has used this program, which has aired now for over 15 years, to reach the lost with the Gospel and to edify the saints with principles of truth from the Word of God.
The Voice of Gethsemane radio program can also be heard in the Columbia, SC area on radio station WWOS/WPOG (91.9 FM, 710 & 810 AM) weekdays at 3:30 PM and on internet radio station Gethsemane Global Radio weeknights at 9 PM.
You can also listen to recordings from the last 3 months of Voice of Gethsemane radio programs by clicking on the “Broadcasts” tab at the top of this page, then click on “Voice of Gethsemane.” Under the “Broadcasts” tab. You can also listen to recordings from our 30-minute radio broadcast entitled Heart of Gethsemane which features preaching and music from recent services at Gethsemane Baptist Church or click on the “Sermons” tab to listen to other sermons by Pastor Brian Harr and other special services of the Gethsemane Baptist Church.
Faith Promise Missions
Every year we emphasize missions through faith promise giving. We regularly preach missions and encourage our people to prayerfully support the missions program financially. As a result, we have been able to support a number of missionaries. We believe in taking the Gospel to Greenville ourselves. However, we also believe in sending the Gospel to places where we can’t go!
We provide a Children’s Church for all children between the ages of five and twelve. We have qualified, compassionate workers who teach the Bible to the children on their level while the parents are in the main worship service.
Nursery is provided for families with young children, and transportation is available for those who live in close proximity to the church.
